Generals show off depth in 9-0 victory over Cayuga

Blumenstock over cayuga

Herkimer, N.Y. - The Herkimer Generals Women’s Soccer Team continued its winning ways and scoring quick goals Saturday against Cayuga. It took the ladies only 11 seconds to open the scoring as a Jenna Roger’s (Port Leyden, NY) through ball found a streaking Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY) who would bury it home. This would be a sign of things to come as the Generals would strike often this game. Six minutes later Blumenstock would be the setup person as she would find Hailey Couchman (Baldwinsville, NY) for the second goal of the game.  Sarah George would then get her name on the score sheet as she struck twice in 10 minutes courtesy of Alexis Romeyn (St. Jonhnsville, NY) & Hailey Couchman passes. In the 20th minute, Romeyn would find Caitlin Handy (St. Johnsville, NY) who finished off a one on one with the Cayuga keeper. Blumenstock would finish off the first half scoring with 2 more goals to make it a 7-0 lead at the half. Haley Harrington and Maddie Renshaw (Herkimer, NY) were credited with the assists.

In the second half the Generals would tack on two more thanks to an Adrianna Sposato (Baldwinsville, NY)laser and a M’Kenzie Bradshaw (Oswego, NY) tap in. Malory Baldwin (Johnstown, NY) set up Bradshaw for her first career collegiate goal. Rachel Todd (McGraw, NY) & Honesti Crochran (Wingdale, NY) help keep Cayuga off the board with 1 save each. The Generals will go to rival Mohawk Valley Wednesday in a game that will decide the Mountain Valley Conference Championship. Game time is 2:00 pm.
