Herkimer downs MVCC 6-1 on the road

Girls soccer v mvcc

Utica, N.Y. - The Generals traveled up the road to rival MVCC on Wednesday for a showdown that could clinch the Mountain Valley Conference Championship for Herkimer. Herkimer’s Sarah George (Dolgeville, NY) would start the scoring for the high powered General’s offense just 15 minutes into the game thanks to a Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY) pass. MVCC’s Jordan Batson had a long range shot find the goal 4 minutes later. The tie would be very short lived as Alexis Romeyn (St. Johnsville, NY) setup Blumenstock for the go ahead goal and the eventual game winner a minute and 30 seconds later. From there the Generals didn’t look back as they poured on the offense. Maddie Renshaw (Herkimer, NY) would score nine minutes before half to give Herkimer a 3-1 lead going into the break.

In the second, Herkimer picked up right where it left off as a Hannah Taylor (St. Johnsville, NY) free kick found Jenna Rogers (Port Leyden, NY) who flicked it on to a wide open Blumenstock 5 minutes in. Adrianna Sposato (Baldwinsville, NY) would cap off the day scoring the last two goals of the game. The first was courtesy of a Blumenstock pass and the second was unassisted as Sposato was taken down hard in the box and would convert her penalty kick for a 6-1 victory. Freshman Rachel Todd (McGraw, NY) collected 5 saves in the victory. Coach Palkovic said after the game, “This is always a tough place to come play. So to come in and get a convincing win like this is always good. The ladies played well in a tough environment and got the job done. I’m proud of them.”

The Generals are now 11-1 ranked #3 in the country and play at home Saturday 1:00 against #1 ranked Genesee.
