Cogar Gallery to Exhibit “Cobden at Night” by Charles A. Swedlund

“Cobden at Night” by Charles A. Swedlund will be on display at Herkimer College’s Cogar Gallery Thursday, November 16 through Wednesday, December 20. There will not be an artist’s reception held for this show.

Charles Swedlund was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He attended the Institute of Design of Illinois Institute of Technology for both his undergraduate and graduate degrees majoring in photography and education. His photographs are in the following collections: Museum of Modern Art, New York, New York; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois; Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris, France and Kyoto Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, Japan.

“Cobden at Night” is a selection of color photographs from a project done by Swedlund documenting Cobden, Illinois during a winter in which there was a large amount of snow. Usually, the snow leaves in a day or so but that was a unique winter. He photographed at night in order to show the contrast of the warm interior colors of the houses to the cold colors of the snow being illuminated by the streetlights.

The Cogar Gallery is open to the public free of charge from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. when the College is open.
