Generals win NJCAA 3A Championship over HVCC

Womens soccer 3A Championship 2017

Troy, N.Y. - The Herkimer Women’s Soccer Team defeated Hudson Valley to win the Region 3A Championship. The Herkimer Generals Women’s Soccer Team captured the Region 3A Championship on Sunday and advance to the National Championship Tournament with a 4-1 over Hudson Valley.  Although the Herkimer Generals defeated Hudson Valley earlier in the year in Albany 5-2, the Vikings were a little more prepared this time around. The Generals would strike first though as Hailey Couchman (Baldwinsville, NY) found the back of the net beating The Hudson Valley keeper near post for a 1-0 lead. They would continue to battle until Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY) would put the Generals up 2-0 in the 37th minute. But just before half the Vikings got a little life as an errand clearance found its way to  Hudson Valley’s Sydney Buhrke who drilled it home to narrow the lead 2-1.

Just like they have all year though Herkimer came out quick in the 2nd half netting 2 goals within a 20 minute span to increase the lead 4-1. Blumenstock would find the net just 9 minutes into the second half and then go on to complete the hat trick 11 minutes later. Rachel Todd (McGraw, NY) had 3 saves in the win.

All-Tournament Team selections were Hailey Couchman, Sarah George, Alexis Romeyn and the Tournament MVP was Mikayla Blumenstock. The Generals will now move on to the National Championship Tournament hosted by Tompkins-Cortland on November 9th, 10th, & 12th. Herkimer will find out their opponent shortly as seeding will be determined on Tuesday or Wednesday.
