Murphy earns USCJC Scholar National Player of the Year

Herkimer, NY - Sophomore Luke Murphy (Glasgow, Scotland) was named the 2017 United Soccer Coaches Junior College Men’s Scholar National Player of the Year.  Murphy is the first player in the history of the men’s soccer program to receive the prestigious award.  He was also named to the first team NJCAA and United Soccer Coaches All-American teams.  “What an unbelievable honor this is for Murph to receive this prestigious award.”  Said Coach Pepe Aragon.  To be named the scholar national player of the year and for it to be the first time in program history is very special.”

Murphy, the Generals top goal scorer led the nation in goals with 35.  He was a first team all-Region III selection and named Region III player of the year.  Murphy was also selected as the MVP of the Region III championship scoring a hat trick against Onondaga CC.

Goalkeeper Roandre Wollery (Hartford, CT) was also named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-American first team.   Wollery was second in the country with a 0.67 goals against average.  He was named to the all Mountain Valley Conference and all-Region III teams.  Wollery recorded 11 shutouts in 22 games.

“I am so proud of Murph and Roandre.  Said Coach Pepe Aragon.  They are great examples of what a true student athlete is which is to excel not only on the field but in the classroom as well.  Both are absolute class acts of people.

Both players will receive their awards Saturday, January 20th at the United Soccer Coaches All-America Luncheon in Philadelphia, PA.
