Malerie Belles win National Championship in Women's High Jump

Utica, NY - Herkimer freshman Malerie Belles (Clay, NY) won the National Championship in the Women's High Jump with a height of 1.49m  on Saturday, May 12 at the NJCAA Division III Women's Track and Field Championships at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, NY. She also placed 4th in the Women's Heptathlon with 2302 points and was named a 1st team All-American. Belles was also named the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Year for the Northeast Region. 

Other Herkimer Female athletes who competed at Nationals were Alexis Perkett (Remsen, NY) who placed 8th in the Javelin with a throw of 27.54m and she finished 8th in the Heptathalon with 1612 points. Miyah Stroman (Syracuse, NY) finished 11th in the triple jump with a jump of 9.51m and Cassandra Williams (Schyuler, NY)  finished 14th in the javelin with a throw of 15.78m

On the men's side, Herkimer had 5 top 12 finishes. Jordan Edmonds (Bridgeport, CT) placed 4th in the 200m with a time of 23.32. Kenny Joseph (Dover Plains, NY) tied for 5th in the high jump with a jump of 6 feet. Nate Florian (Fort Plain, NY) had a throw of 29.92 in the hammer to place 9th. Mamadou Diallo (Bronx, NY) ran a 52.88 in the 400m to finish 10th and Kyle Holmes (Spencer, NY) finished 12th in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:57.7.

Overall, the Herkimer women's team finished 13th in the nation and the men placed 20th. Congratulation to all above on a great National meet and season.
