Men's JV Basketball wins thriller against Elmira

Herkimer, NY - Jordan Edmonds (Bridgeport, CT) scored on a driving layup with 7.8 seconds to go to give the Herkimer Generals Men's JV Basketball team a thrilling 65-64 win over Elmira College on Sunday afternoon in the Herkimer Varsity Gym. The win was the first of the year for the Generals under new coach Steve Heitz.

After Edmonds basket, the Eagles tried to go the length of the floor but Gabriel Alberastine (Perth, Australia) stole the ball just past midcourt and dribbled out the game's final seconds to secure the win. It was a back and forth game as the Generals held a five point lead at halftime at 32-27 only to see Elmira storm back and lead by as much as 5 points before the game came down to the final seconds. Rashad Alfahad (Utica, NY) had 21 points for Herkimer, with 14 of those coming in the second half and Brendan Octaviano (Melbourne, Australia) fought through foul trouble and netting all 9 of his points in the second half, including the only 3-pointer for Herkimer on the day.

The Generals will next travel to Binghamton, NY for a game with Davis College on Tuesday night. This will be the second time in a week that the two teams have faced off, with Davis coming away with a 72-69 win on Wednesday night the 6th on the Generals home court.
