Men's Soccer takes down Brookdale, sets up showdown with Mohawk Valley
Herkimer, NY – Freshman Alex Charles (Christ Church, St. Kitts) scored four goals and sophomore Shemar Blair (Brampton, Ontario, Canada) recorded five assists in Herkimer’s 7-0 win over visiting Brookdale CC. Sophomore Jaahdel Cyril (Bridgeport, Connecticut) scored the first goal of the game in the 3rd minute off an assist from Blair. Blair beat two defenders and passed to Cyril for the first time finish from the top of the penalty area. Charles scored the next two goals in the 4th minute and 35th minute. Blair redirected a serve from freshman Minato Nakayama (Hyogo, Japan) for Charles first time finish. Blair assisted on Charles next goal off a great pass from sophomore Mupenzi Irakiza (Syracuse, NY). Irakiza played a ball into the left side of the penalty area to Blair who served the ball to the back post for Charles first time finish.
In the second half, Cyril scored the fourth goal of the game in the 57th minute off an assist from Blair. Blair took on three defenders and played the ball off to Cyril for the first time finish. Charles struck again in the 58th minute from Blair again. Irakiza played a through ball to Blair who dribbled down the left side of the penalty area and served the ball in the box to Charles for the first time finish. Charles scored his fourth goal of the game in the 63rd minute from an assist from Irakiza. Irakiza took on two defenders from the left side of the penalty area and played a pass into Charles for the first time finish. Sophomore Tokiwa Yoshida (Hiroshima, Japan) finished off the scoring for the Generals in the 77th minute off an assist from sophomore Riley Urie (West Glover, Vermont). Riley took the throw in to Yoshida who took a touch and scored from the top of the penalty area.
Freshman goalkeeper Manabu Takahashi (Osaka, Japan) recorded three saves and sophomore keeper Tinius Klausen (Oslo, Norway) had two saves.
The Generals travel to Mohawk Valley CC on Wednesday to take on the Hawks. Herkimer is ranked #2 and Mohawk Valley is ranked #4 in this week’s NJCAA national poll. Game time is set for 2:00 PM
