Herkimer, NY—Herkimer College women’s soccer players Kristen Purcell and Kayla Alsheimer recently earned Player of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 9-15.

Purcell, a sophomore from Sauquoit, NY, won the Region III Athlete of the week for the second time already this season. Purcell tallied five goals and four assists this past weekend, leading the Generals to two more wins and a 7-0 start to the season. Her scoring increased her season totals to 16 goals and 40 points. Purcell's 16 goals scored is currently top in the country, while her total of 40 points is currently second best in Division III.

Alsheimer, a freshman from Deerfield, NY, was named United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week. Alsheimer has anchored a stingy Generals defense that has given up just two goals in regional play thus far.

Coach Jason Palkovic said, “I am happy for Kayla to get recognized for the outstanding job she has been doing in the back. Our original plan wasn’t for her to be there, but since we have had her there she has done a great job for us. With her and her teammates, they have been playing quite well. Again, this is a reflection of what the team as a whole is doing. Congrats to Kayla, Kristen, and our entire team for these honors and great start to our season!”
