Herkimer County Community College’s online Medical Coding / Transcriptionist Certificate has been named one of the top programs of its kind in the nation by Intelligent.com.

Researchers at Intelligent.com, known as a trusted resource for online program rankings and insights into higher education, compared 243 programs from 183 regionally accredited colleges and universities nationwide. Programs were evaluated based on reputation, course strength, cost, faculty, and flexibility and were given a score between 0 and 100. The top 60 were then released to the public.

Herkimer College’s program, which is housed in its online learning Internet Academy, earned a 74.65, putting it at No. 41, with a special nod for Best Transfer Services. It was also the only State University of New York affiliate to make the list.

“The Internet Academy has very high standards for our programs and are always very excited when we are recognized in this way,” said Linda Lamb, Herkimer College’s associate dean of academic affairs.

The 30 credit Medical Coding/Transcriptionist Certificate program gives students the opportunity to gain entry-level skills for the field, including identifying and applying correct codes for certain diagnoses and surgical procedures, understanding a variety of medical terms, and gaining familiarity with several types of medical forms.
