Update to Campus Safety Incident - From President McColgin

Dear Campus Community,

This is an update to Tuesday’s incident investigation.

As was previously stated, Herkimer County Community College Campus Safety Officers were alerted at 1:00 p.m. to an altercation that occurred in Campus Meadows apartments. We now know that three individuals suffered non-life threatening injuries, including one person who suffered four stab wounds, and were taken to local hospitals for treatment. None of these individuals are Herkimer College students.

Campus Peace Officers, along with members of the Herkimer Police Department, determined that the fight stemmed from an incident Monday night, with tensions growing between parties overnight. Both parties recruited the assistance of friends from their hometowns, none of which were Herkimer College students, ahead of the Tuesday afternoon confrontation.

Several people were interviewed at the scene and witnesses were interviewed throughout the evening. Herkimer Campus Safety reviewed security camera footage and were able to capture video of at least three individuals fleeing the area in a gray four-door car.

At this time, two of the victims are cooperating with police. The Herkimer Police Department will be reaching out to the New York Police Department (NYPD) for assistance in identifying the individual suspected of the stabbing.

We do not tolerate violence of any kind on our campus. I would like to thank members of our Campus Safety Office, as well as the Herkimer Police Department, for their swift action.

If anyone has information on the incident, please contact the Herkimer Campus Safety Office at (315) 574-4020.
