Generals get past Raiders in Regional Quarterfinal

Herkimer, NY - Playing each other for the third time in 3 weeks, the Herkimer Generals edged the Fulton-Montgomery Raiders by a score of 50-45 on Tuesday night in a Region III Quarterfinal Playoff game at the Herkimer Varsity Gym. The win lifts the Generals record to 19-5 on the season and sends them to the Region III Women's Basketball Final Four this upcoming weekend at North Country Community College in Saranac Lake, NY.

After trailing 11-10 at the end of the first quarter, Herkimer outscored F-M 15-8 in the second quarter to take 25-19 lead into the halftime break. The Generals extended their lead to 7 at the end of 3 quarters before holding off the Raiders in the last ten minutes to get the victory. Amber Been (Bronx, NY) continued her strong play this month, leading the Generals with 14 points. Senior Lexi DeBeatham (Menands, NY) added 11 points while freshman center Alysia Roldan (East Greenbush, NY) contributed 10 points in the win.

Herkimer, the # 3 seed in the Region III Tournament, now takes on # 2 seed Onondaga CC in a Region III Semifinal on Saturday afternoon at North Country CC. This is the third meeting of the season between the Lazers and Generals with OCC taking the first two contests this year. Game time is set for 3:00 PM. The other Regional Semifinal will pit the # 4 Mohawk Valley Hawks against the host and top seeded North Country Saints. That game will take place at 1:00 on Saturday. The winners on Saturday will meet in the 2020 Region III Women's Basketball Championship Game on Sunday afternoon at North Country at 1:00 PM.
