Mountain Valley Conference honors given to standout Generals softball players, coach as team heads to national championships

HERKIMER, NY—Several members of the Herkimer Generals softball team have earned honors from the Mountain Valley Conference as the team prepares for the national championships.

Coach PJ Anadio has been named Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the Year for 2021, pitcher/infielder Madison Ihnat was named Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year, and seven student-athletes have been named to the Mountain Valley Conference Softball First Team.

Anadio is in his eleventh season at the helm of the Generals softball program. He recently won his 400th career game at Herkimer, and this is the eighth time he has been named Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the Year.

Ihnat (Boca Raton, FL) is currently batting .582 with six home runs and 29 RBI’s. She was also one of the Generals’ top pitchers, going 8-1 and striking out 46 batters in 59 innings pitched, landing her on the First Team All-Conference.

Other Generals joining Ihnat on the First Team All-Conference are infielder Aubrey Ketcham (Otisville, NY), designated player Kayla Young (Baldwinsville, NY), utility player Alexis Garrison (Clifton Park, NY), outfielders Alexis Van Patten (Niskayuna, NY) and Melissa Daugneault (North Greenbush, NY), and catcher Kourtney Ketcham (Otisville, NY).

The Generals currently have a record of 22-4. They won the Region III Championship for the ninth straight season and have qualified for the NJCAA Division III Softball National Championships, which will be held at Carrier Park in Syracuse from May 27 to May 29.
