Zysk Wins Mountain Valley Championship

Kaylan Zysk 2 v5

JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. – The Herkimer Generals began their championship season this past Saturday (10/23), as they competed for the Mountain Valley Conference Championship at Fulton-Montgomery Community College.

With only three competitors between the men and women, opportunities were limited. That did not stop Kaylan Zysk (Little Falls/Little Falls, N.Y.), as she cruised to the individual championship with a 5K time of 22:13 in cold and rainy conditions. She becomes the third Lady General to win the Mountain Valley Conference individually since 2013, joining Herkimer national champions Tori Campanian and Chyanna Bernier.

As for the men, they got a pair of top 15 performances as well. Chase Bowman (West Canada Valley/Little Falls, N.Y.) was once again the lead General, garnering a 12th place finish with a time of 35:02. Chris Hardin (Rome Free Academy/Rome, N.Y.) was not far behind in 14th, with a time of 35:49 for the 8K course.

Herkimer next competes on Saturday (10/30) at the Region III Championships hosted by Finger Lakes Community College.
