Tracksters do well despite cold and wind

Track 4 13 2013 Mary GalwayRochester, NY – The Herkimer track & field teams performed well at the Roberts Wesleyan College meet on Saturday, despite the cold and windy conditions. Head Coach Sharon Howell stated that she was surprised at how well the Generals performed given the harsh conditions.

The meet was a major event. There were over 700 athletes from 23 colleges, along with some unaffiliated participants.

Wendall Williams again led the men's team with several stellar performances. Williams won the long jump and the 100 and 200 meter sprints. He also placed second in the high jump.

The men's 1600m relay team improved their time, running 3:51.64. The team members were Andre Fogo, Edward Harris, Demetrius Mitchell and Chad Knapp.

Mary Lenhart and Mary Galway once again had strong javelin performances for the women's team. Lenhart finished fourth and threw the javelin 29.47 meters. Galway was just one place behind Lenhart, throwing 27.90m.

Lenhart also garnered fifth place in the shot put. She put the shot 10.48m.

The team is next scheduled to compete in the Hamilton College meet on Tuesday afternoon.
