Men’s lacrosse enjoys weekend

Herkimer, NY – The Herkimer men's lacrosse team played two home games this past weekend. They lost a close 10-8 game to Finger Lakes on Friday evening, then exploded for 23 goals in a big win over Niagara on Sunday afternoon.

The Friday game with the Lakers may have been a loss, but Head Coach Jamie Ireland said after the game that the contest had been the Generals' best game so far this season.

The win over Niagara was the most one-sided of the Generals' five victories this year. Berek Martichuski led the scoring with six goals and two assists. Senior Jace Sowden buried the ball in the Niagara goal four times.

Kamm David tallied three goals and assisted on two others. Davey Mitchell scored two and set up two. Nicholas Suits scored three times and had two assists.

Lee Steinmetz had two goals. Tony Karam scored a goal. Joe Lopopolo assisted on three goals. Pete Duggan had a goal and an assist. Keenan Brown scored a goal.

The Generals now have a 5-6 season record. Their next outing will be against the mighty Lazers of Onondaga CC on Wednesday. The game will face off at 4:00 p.m., in Wehrum Stadium.
