Public Service

A graduate of Ilion High School, Dan Burling is the first Herkimer College Alumnus elected to State Office, representing the 147th Assembly District of New York State. A U.S. Marine Corps veteran, Burling served in Vietnam prior to beginning his college education at Herkimer College. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science from the University Of Buffalo School of Pharmacy. He currently owns Burling Drug, Inc. in Western New York.

Burling earned a commission in the U.S. Army reserve in 1976,and was honorably discharged as Captain in 1994. His interest in veterans’ affairs led to sponsorship of the Vietnam Moving Memorial Wall, which was placed in Batavia in 1995. He is a former member of the Genesee County Legislature. He was selected as the 1999 Herkimer College Alumnus of the Year, and has received awards from the Attica Chamber of Commerce for Community Service.
