Cardinal swims his way to Green & Gold

HERKIMER, NY – Herkimer Generals swimmer Jacob Cardinal of Newport, NY was named Green & Gold Male Athlete of the Month for November.

Cardinal, a Liberal Arts & Sciences: General Studies major at Herkimer College helped the men’s program to one first and two third place finishes to open the regular season.

The freshman collected three first place, five second place and three third place finishes in the Generals first month of competition, with most of those top finishes won in relays. Cardinal’s individual success came via the Freestyle. Cardinal has beat his previous times by over two seconds from the 50 yd. and five seconds from the 100 yd. leading him to first and second place finishes.

“We have only seen a fraction of Jake’s talent,” said Head Swimming & Diving Coach Vicki Brown. “I don’t think he fully understands his own power, strength and raw talent for this sport just yet. As the season progresses, I am confident Jake will continue to excel. With no previous competitive swimming experience, he quickly gained the respect of his teammates because of his skills, positive attitude and strong work ethic. I am extremely proud of him!”
