Svendsen named First Team All-American

Herkimer, NY— Marius Svendsen (Drammen, Norway) was named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches and NJCAA Junior College Division III first team All-America. The sophomore center back led a defense that allowed only nine goals and had 12 shutouts on the season. Svendsen was also named the Mountain Valley Conference player of the year and first team All-Region III. 

“Marius is a big strong defender who is great in the air and with his feet. He was a great leader and captain who will be very successful at the Division I level,” said Coach Pepe Aragon. 

Svendsen will receive his award at the All-American luncheon in Chicago, Illinois on Saturday, January 12th which is part of the 2019 United Soccer Coaches National Convention.  He will receive his award with every All-American from high school through NCAA Division I.

Freshman Shemar Blair (Brampton, Ontario) and Mupenzi Irakiza (Syracuse, NY) were named to the 2018 United Soccer Coaches Division III Junior College second team All-East region team. Blair had 17 goals and 11 assists in his first season as a General. Irakiza recorded five goals and 15 assists. 

“Both players are explosive technical players that I am excited to have back,” said Aragon.
