Women's Basketball goes into Thanksgiving break with perfect 8-0 record, # 7 ranking in National Polls

HERKIMER — In their final two games before the Thanksgiving Break, the Lady Generals showed no mercy, defeating Jefferson Community College 72-40 on Thursday, November 21st and SUNY Broome 83-44 on Saturday November 23rd.

In the most recent NJCAA poll, Herkimer was ranked No. 7 in Division III; moving up two spots from the previous week.

Against Jefferson, Herkimer (8-0) was led in scoring by freshman guard Junasia Lanier (Albany) with 26 points, and freshman center Alysia Roldan (East Greenbush) with 14. Freshman guard Amber Been added 10 points in the 32 point rout over the Cannoneers.

Against SUNY Broome, Herkimer was led in scoring sophomore guard Alexis Debeatham (Shaker) with 18 points. Both Been (15) & Roldan (14) recorded double-digit point totals for the second consecutive game.

This time last year, Herkimer started 3-3 en route to a 5-13 record. 365 days later and they’re a top 10 team in NJCAA Division III.

It feels great (to be undefeated),” said sophomore guard Alexis Debeatham. “Last year it was really rough only winning a few games. This year we no longer wanted to be that team. We all have the same goal in mind and that’s to win and be on top. We’re doing good of getting to where we want to be and we just have to continue that. But it is a great feeling to be considered one of the better teams.”

The Lady Generals play at No. 8 ranked Onondaga Community College on Saturday, December 7th at 12:00 p.m. before a month-long break heading into the spring semester.
