Ihnat powers Herkimer to another sweep of Mohawk Valley

Herkimer, NY - Playing on their home field for the first time in almost 2 years, the Herkimer Generals stayed perfect on the season as thet swept the Mohawk Valley Hawks for the second time in 4 days on Tuesday afternoon, winning by scores of 14-2 in Game 1 and 8-0 in Game 2, both games only going 5 innings.

Madison Ihnat (Boca Raton, FL) was the big story in the opener as she dominated the game, both at the plate and on the bump for Herkimer. Ihnat went 3-4 with 2 home runs and 7 RBI's to pace the Generals offensive attack while pitching the complete game and giving up only 4 hits and 2 runs while striking out 3. Emily Beames (South Glens Falls, NY) also added a homer while Olivia Guy (Rome, NY), Melissa Daigneault (North Greenbush, NY) and Michaela Ponticello (Gloversville, NY) each contributed 2 hits in the win.

Ihnat capped her 6-7 day at the plate with 3 more hits in the nightcap as the Generals scored all of their runs in the first 3 innings to cruise to the win. Ponticello and Aubrey Ketcham (Otisville, NY) each added a home run to the Generals attack and Maiya Reinhart (Batavia, NY) went 2-3 at the plate. Hannah DeRock (Hunt, NY) got the win, pitching 5 scoreless innings while striking out 4 MV batters and scattering 4 hits.

The Generals, now 8-0 on the season and ranked # 2 in the latest NJCAA Division III National Poll, will now host the SUNY Broome Hornets on Wednesday, April 7th at the Herkimer College Softball Field. First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
