Baseball team wins Sunday doubleheader

Herkimer, NY – A break in the weather and plenty of field prep allowed SUNY Adirondack and Herkimer CCC to play a baseball doubleheader on the HCCC diamond on Sunday afternoon. The Generals continued their winning ways and won both contests.

The two teams were also to have clashed at historic East Field in Glens Falls on Saturday, but the weather prevented that. Those two games are now scheduled for the Glens Falls venue on May 7.

Game One

Herkimer scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning. Brent Baker (Fort Plain) led off the inning with a single, and Hayden Caffey (Thrall, TX) backed it up with a double. AJ Fabrizio (Martin County, FL) was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. The Generals got RBI singles from Brandon Overstreet (Martin County, FL), Dan Smith (Westmoreland), Cody Newbigging (Canada), and Justin Stevener (New York Mills), and a sac fly by Chris Burns (Endicott, NY) to open up the 5-0 lead.

That was enough for Herkimer ace Ben Moxley (Oneonta) who worked six innings, allowing three hits and three walks, while striking out six.

Burns added a three-RBI inside-the-park home run in the sixth as Herkimer finished with a 9-0 victory. Burns went two-for-three with four runs batted in. Overstreet went two-for-four with two RBI's in the game.

Game Two

Baseball 4-14-2013 BrandonOverstreetAdirondack scored a run in the top of the first, but the home team responded with two runs in their half of the inning. The Generals added three in the second and six in the third for an 11-1, run-rule win.
