AthleticsGenerals take two in their weekend openerThe Herkimer Generals Women’s Soccer Team opened up their 2017 campaign this past weekend with a pair of victories in the Coliseum Kickoff Classic. First up was nationally ranked #8 Nassau Lions on Saturday. The Generals wasted little time opening up the scoring for the season as freshman Sarah George (Dolgeville) finished off a pass from returner Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland) in the 9th minute for the only goal of the first half. The two weren’t done there as they teamed up again for a goal 8 minutes into the second half to extend the lead 2-0. Blumenstock would add another goal in the 73rd minute off a Hailey Couchman (Baldwinsville) pass for her last points of the day. Freshman Haley Harrington (Stockbridge) would cap off the scoring with a free kick in the 83rd minute for the 4-0 victory. M’Kenzie Bradshaw (Oswego) and Rachel Todd (McGraw) split time in the goal to preserve the shutout.
