What items should I leave at home?
Please do not bring the following items:
- Candles
- Incense
- Halogen Lamps
- Fireworks
- Air Conditioners
- Live Christmas Trees
- Pets
- Weightlifting Apparatus
- BBQ Grills
- Foreman Grill, etc.
- Gasoline/Other flammable liquids
- Cinder Blocks
- Drugs/Alcohol/Kegs/Beer Balls
- Decorative or Empty alcohol containers
- Exterior Mounted Antennas
- Duct Tape
- Extension Cords
- Drum Sets/Electric Guitars/Amplified Equipment

What items should I bring?
When speaking with your roommate/apartment-mates, you need to discuss which of the following items you should bring, which others might have, and which items you can share.
You should also consult your homeowners insurance to see if your policy will cover items that are lost, stolen, and/or damaged while at college. Otherwise, you might want to contact your insurance agent about purchasing renters insurance.
Acceptable things you might want to bring include:

If you will be bringing a vehicle, make sure that you have the proper equipment such as jumper cables, safety equipment, and a shovel. The $80 ($50 for Spring only) parking fee will be due at check-in.

Can I get my deposit back if I change my mind?
All housing contract cancellations must be submitted in writing to the Office of Residence Life & Housing and received by the due date. Students canceling this agreement on or before July 15 for the fall semester or December 15 for the spring semester will receive a full refund of the security deposit. Any cancellation after July 15 for the fall semester and December 15 for the spring semester will result in forfeiture of the security deposit.
Any contract received after July 15 for the fall semester and December 15 for the spring semester will have 14 days from the date received (up to the day before classes begin) to cancel their contract and receive a full refund of the Security Deposit. If the contract is canceled after 14 days, the security deposit will be forfeited.
Any cancellation due to formally withdrawing from Herkimer College between the first day of classes and the third Friday of classes will be billed based on a prorated daily rate and forfeit the security deposit. Any cancellation after the third Friday of classes will result in the forfeiture of the Security Deposit and the student will remain liable for that semester’s rent.
Students wishing to move off-campus between semesters must apply in writing detailing a change in financial status since entering into this agreement. If approved, the student will forfeit their security deposit. If not approved, the student will be responsible for the rent for the semester and all other charges.

What is room selection?
Room selection is the process whereby students currently living on campus select on-campus housing for the next academic year. The housing selection process is based on the principles of seniority, fairness, and personal choice. Students select their roommates and then select their room according to a point total.
