This course explores civil liability issues faced by criminal justice practitioners, supervisors, and agencies. Topics include tort liability under state and federal law for intentional torts as False Arrest and Imprisonment and Negligence torts as applied to situations such as high-speed chases and wrongful death. The course will also extensively examine the civil liability of police and corrections officers, and their supervisors, for violations of a citizen's Constitutional Rights in areas including but not limited to an officer's use of force, an inmate's conditions of confinement, and racial profiling. Qualified Immunity and Risk Management will also be discussed.

- View your charges using Student Online Services. Select "Student Services," then select “Account Summary by Term.” You can then view your charges for the Summer term.
- Tuition is always due before class begins and all accounts must be settled in full prior to the due date of the bill to avoid additional fees and/or possible deregistration from the course(s). To make an electronic payment, select "Make Electronic Payment", from the links listed under the Student Services tab of Student Online Services, and pay your bill using MasterCard, Visa, Discover, or ACH from your checking or savings account.
