COVID-19/Financial Aid for Special Condtions
Students who have experienced unforeseen circumstances and/or expenses due to the pandemic may be eligible for a special condition (professional judgment). Since the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) uses 2020 income to determine federal financial aid eligibility (for the 2022/2023 year), students deemed to have special conditions may be eligible for an adjustment to the original data reported on the FAFSA. This could make the student eligible for a higher federal financial aid award.
Affordable Connectivity Program:
The White House recently announced a program to help make high speed internet more affordable to households, including those with Pell Grant recipients. The Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP), which was authorized in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, provides households a $30 monthly discount on internet services, as well as a one-time $100 discount towards a computer.
Students and families can go to getinternet.gov, for details on eligibility for the ACP and steps on enrolling. Additionally, the White House worked with several internet service providers to lower the costs of services so that many ACP recipients will have access to internet at no cost.
