Connecting Employers, Training, and Talent Across Herkimer County and the Broader Mohawk Valley

Serving as a catalyst for regional resilience, economic growth, and community revitalization, HCCC’s Office of Workforce and Economic Development drives the creation and delivery of innovative workforce programs designed to meet the evolving needs of Herkimer County and the broader Mohawk Valley—from credit and non-credit courses, microcredentials, and apprenticeships, to internships, workshops, and short-term training opportunities.

The Office also serves as HCCC’s liaison to the SUNY System’s Office of Workforce Development and Upward Mobility, a centralized team that promotes the full spectrum of SUNY programs, services, and pathways that help students achieve lifelong academic and career success.

The Hummel Corporate and Professional Education Center, located in the Robert McLaughlin College Center, provides a business-friendly environment for organizations to conduct conferences and meetings.

FastTrack Plus

Building and Launching Free FastTrack Plus Training Programs for Adult Learners

Through a grant from Empire State Development and in full partnership with Mohawk Valley Community College’s FastTrack program, HCCC is developing free noncredit training programs that will help Herkimer County adult learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to pursue new job opportunities in high-demand industries and sectors. The initial portfolio of HCCC FastTrack programs will launch in Summer 2026. We’re very eager to hear from employers looking to identify talent as well as jobseekers exploring new career paths in the region.

SUNY Apprenticeship Program

Supporting the SUNY Apprenticeship Program

HCCC is an active participant in the SUNY Apprenticeship Program, a highly successful “earn and learn” training model sponsored by SUNY System and the New York State Department of Labor. HCCC’s academic catalog meets Related Instruction (RI) requirements for a range of NYS Registered Apprenticeships, and the College is eager to work with local and regional employers that currently sponsor Registered Apprenticeship Programs.

Providing Professional Development Opportunities for K-12 Teachers and Educators

Through a collaboration with the Mohawk Regional Teacher Center, HCCC is excited to offer a range of professional development opportunities for K-12 teachers and educators in Herkimer County. This includes workshops that help teachers, counselors, and district leaders expand their knowledge of New York State’s innovation economy, a thriving ecosystem of cutting-edge industries spanning various emerging technologies, including semiconductors, clean energy, and advanced manufacturing.

Facilitating Access to Digital Tools and Technologies that Advance Industry-Aligned Learning and Career Readiness

Through an Empire State Development Grant that was awarded to the Fulton County Center for Regional Growth, HCCC will support Herkimer County’s involvement in a major workforce development partnership between the six-county Mohawk Valley region and the Expertise Project, cutting-edge career training and professional readiness start-up that utilizes video and virtual reality offerings to build stronger partnerships between jobseekers, unemployed and underemployed individuals, and businesses to help foster local, regional, and statewide workforce development.
