Future Enrollment and Credit Considerations
Taking college courses in high school is a great way to get ahead and save money, but students should also be aware of the following considerations:
A low GPA or low credits attempted versus earned ratio in high school can negatively impact future transfer prospects and financial aid eligibility. A student with a low ratio of credits earned to credits attempted may lose federal financial aid eligibility upon matriculation into a program. Dropped courses do not appear on the student's transcript; however, courses a student withdraws from do appear on the transcript and count as "credits attempted." It is imperative to be aware of all academic dates and deadlines.
Although SUNY institutions are required to accept all coursework taken at other SUNYs (including College Now coursework), and most other colleges will also do so, some institutions have policies indicating that they do not accept credits earned while a student is in high school. It is strongly recommended that students check with their choice of future college/university (if not in the SUNY system) to confirm acceptance of College Now courses.
Credits earned in the College Now program will apply to programs at HCCC. It is recommended that students take College Now coursework aligned with their future HCCC program of choice or with a SUNY Transfer Path to maximize credit applicability. Please review our Academic Pathways or connect with the Advisement Center for guidance.
