Financial Aid Overage Checks

Here’s what you can expect.

If your financial aid is greater than your total expenses at Herkimer College and you meet the necessary attendance requirements, you will receive a check for the overage.

It is important to make sure all financial aid requirements are fulfilled so your aid is disbursed to your account. (Financial aid is received by the College twice a semester for federal aid and once for state). You can keep track of your financial aid requirements online by accessing Student Online Services through the web portal (my.herkimer.edu).

The Student Accounts Office begins issuing checks to students for overages after the first disbursement of federal aid is received by the college (after the sixth week of classes). Only students who have funds left over after covering all college expenses will receive a check. The second disbursement of federal aid is received after the ninth week of classes, and again, students who have funds left over from the aid after covering all college expenses will receive an overage check.

For the Fall 2021 term, these overage checks will be mailed on or about October 20, 2021 and November 18, 2021.

It is important to remember that your financial aid eligibility is dependent upon you regularly attending classes and making sure all financial aid requirements are completed. Students are strongly encouraged to utilize Student Online Services to track their student accounts, financial aid, and holds.
