  • A variety of degree and certificate programs: Herkimer offers more than 40 associate degree and certificate programs in art, business, communication arts, criminal justice and law, education, healthcare and service, liberal arts and sciences, and STEM.
  • Ranked among the top community colleges: Throughout its history, Herkimer College has been recognized among the top two-year colleges for student success, statewide and nationally, by numerous organizations. Most recently, Herkimer College made the list of the Best Community Colleges in New York in 2023 by Intelligent.comHerkimer College was ranked number eight overall out of the 22 community colleges scored. The higher education resource guide identifies top schools in the state based on tuition costs, the number of credits required to graduate, and the online coursework delivery format.
  • Affordable tuition: Herkimer College tuition for 2022-2023 is an affordable $5,116 per year for in-state and out-of-state residents, as well as international students. Herkimer College is currently ranked #1 for affordability among New York State community colleges by
  • Financial Aid: Approximately 86% of first-time, full-time students earn some form of financial aid.
  • Scholarships available: Herkimer College students may qualify for free tuition through New York State's Excelsior Scholarship program. Herkimer County residents who graduate in the top 15% of their class from a high school in the county qualify for the Foundation Tuition Scholarship, which provides full tuition in year 1 and half tuition in year 2. The Herkimer County College Foundation awards numerous other scholarships to Herkimer College students each year.
  • Small class sizes: With a student-to-faculty ration of 18:1, class sizes are small ensuring students receive individual attention and support.
  • Transfer: The College maintains more than 160 transfer agreements with public and private four-year colleges and universities to ensure a seamless transfer of credits. On average, 46% of full-time students continue their education at other colleges and universities.
  • A leader in online learning: Herkimer College has a reputation as a leader among colleges offering quality online academic programs and support services. Herkimer currently offers 21 associate degree and 4 certificate programs, as well as support services, entirely online, through a new Generals Online digital learning platform, powered by D2L Brightspace. 
  • National championship athletics: The Herkimer Generals are a nationally-ranked two-year non-scholarship athletic program. The Generals have been awarded the Daktronics Cup four times (based on national championship competitions and awarded by the National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators). 
  • On-campus housing: Herkimer has the capacity to house 600 students in 3 spacious, fully-furnished, on-campus apartment complexes.
  • Student Clubs & Organizations: Students have opportunities to get involved in more than 30 student clubs and organizations that offer events and activities throughout the school year.
