Olivia Stromecki

Hi everybody, my name is Olivia Stromecki. I am a Psychology major from Chaffee, NY (hour south of Buffalo). I went to Pioneer High School in Yorkshire and participated in many activities there, many of which I continue here at Herkimer. Some of those include SGA and bowling. I’m a huge music and theatre person, which has helped develop my character over the years. In high school I was Captain of the girls’ varsity bowling team for 3 years, concert master in our orchestra as a 1st chair violin, president of drama club, a lead for our color guard in marching band, and a member of NHS and SGA. Outside of school, I was president of Arcade Junior Fire Dept for 4 years, and a registered NYS EMT for my senior year of high school. That experience in the department shaped my perspective and cemented what I wanted to be in the future, a VA clinical psychologist.
So far at my time in Herkimer, I’ve taken on many leadership positions. I was secretary for student government, treasurer for active minds, captain of the girls bowling team, a member of the psychology club and the student voice for the presidential search committee. So far this year, I helped at orientation as a student ambassador and got to connect with the incoming freshmen.
As Student Government president, my biggest goal is to increase our student participation and involvement. Many students I’ve talked to don’t realize just how many clubs, organizations, field trips and activities that this campus has. Many off- campus students don’t realize that these activities aren’t just for residential students. Me and other members of the government are planning to discuss ideas of advertisement, encouragement, and overall solving this problem for good. One way we intend to get the word out is having Student Government office hours, just as professors have. We plan to have a weekly table outside of the Café for students to inform us of comments or concerns on campus, as well as advertising certain clubs and activities. Me and the rest of SG still need to meet and continue brainstorming, but we are all excited to kick this school year off and increase our student involvement by a landslide!
I simply cannot put into words how blessed and privileged I am to be given the opportunity to be on the board of trustees. I am very excited to not only gain experience, but to work together to make Herkimer County Community College a destination school, and that all starts with the students. Thank you so much, and I cannot wait to begin working with you all.
