Campus Closings & Delays
There are times when conditions exist, such as inclement weather, utilities interruption, etc., that require the College to close or delay opening the campus. The decision to close or delay opening will be made by the College President (or designee) with as much notice as possible. The decision will be based on the best information possible from weather notices, physical conditions on campus, and routes over which students, staff and faculty travel.
When there is a campus closing or delay, students should consult the Alternate Course Delivery statement in their course syllabi for direction on expected class participation.
Closings and delays will be communicated to local media outlets, as well as posted on the Herkimer College website (www.herkimer.edu) and the official Herkimer College Facebook page (www.facebook.com/herkimercollege). Notification will also be made to employees and students via email, and to those who subscribe to receive text messages.
To receive closing and delay notifications via text message, please text the word "closings" to 34166. If at any time you wish to unsubscribe, you may simply text "stop" to 34166.
It should be noted that a delayed opening will indicate a time that the College will open (i.e., The College will open at noon.). Please understand, if the College opens at 12 p.m. (noon), students should report to their first on-campus, in-person class with a start time closest to noon, but not before noon (i.e., not a class with an 11:45 a.m. start time, but any class starting from noon on).
