The Herkimer College Information Technology office provides and maintains computer hardware, software and audio visual support across campus for students, faculty and staff.

The Information Technology department comprises four technical areas that provide services:

  • Programmers maintain the 'Banner/Student Online Services' database which provides vital academic information.
  • Networking maintains the electronic infrastructure that allows communication between campus users and computing resources.
  • Computer technicians maintain the computing hardware and software so campus users have access to reliable equipment and technical assistance.
  • Audio visual maintains and provides support for all campus audio visual needs in and out of classrooms.

The department works together to manage and support the College's technology infrastructure to ensure an enriched teaching and learning environment as well as efficient and effective operations. We also strive to provide an outstanding Online Learning experience, as well as assistance with applications like Student Online Services, MyHerkimer.edu, TeamDynamix, and Webmail for Faculty and Staff or Webmail for Students.

  • Office 365 is the Office you know, plus tools to help you work better together. With Office 365, you can get things done from virtually anywhere. You can access, share, and co-author documents with Office integrating with OneDrive. You can also download the Office Mobile apps to help you access everything you need to work seamlessly from nearly any device while you are on the move.

    Need Office for your personal device at home and do not want to pay premium license fees? Faculty, staff, and students can install the latest Office across their devices for free for as long as they are at Herkimer College.

  • You can login and complete your account setup at https://office.com

    How to Login to Office 365 for the First Time

    •  Find a photo you want to use and store it on your computer. The photo needs to be smaller than 4 megabyte and can be a .png,
      jpg, or .gif file.
    • Sign in to Microsoft 365 with your Herkimer College account at https://oultook.com/herkimer.edu.
    • Select the circle in the upper right-hand corner of the page that shows your initials or an icon of a person.
    • Click on the camera icon. Change your photo in the pop-up that appears.

    • Adjust your photo and click apply. It will take some time for your photo to appear on your Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft
      Teams and other Office 365 apps.

  • My Herkimer is a portal.  Within the portal you can (just to name a few):

    • view your email (webmail),
    • access Student Online Services,
    • see your schedule,
    • read about campus Announcements,
    • see what faculty are absent (yay no class for you
    • It also provides a link to Generals Go (blackboard)

    And so much more

  • Your username will consist of the following items:

    First 7 characters of your last name (or full last name if less than 7 characters)
    First initial of your first name
    Last 3 numbers of your student ID

    For example: student John Smithson whose college ID is H99123101, will have a username of smithsoj101

    Your student email account is the only email address Herkimer College will use to contact you regarding official College announcements, such as emergency closures, billing information, financial aid information and other highly important issues. Academic advisors and instructors will also use your email address to notify you of important information regarding your course(s) or upcoming registration. Please be aware that our college offices have been instructed to only respond to student's college email address in a measure to insure the identity of the intended recipient.

  • Your initial password is Herk! Followed by your eight (8) digit date of birth.

    For example:  August 17, 1986 would be 08171986

    Password would be Herk!08171986 

  • The new password has to be between

    • Minimum of 13 characters.
    • Must include at least one letter, one number, and one special character.
    • Must include at least one upper case (capital) and one lower case letter.
    • Must not include the account name.
    • Must not be the last 5 historical passwords.
  • SOS is a secure online site that enables students to access and update a variety of their student information (including class schedule, grades, unofficial transcripts, financial aid, advisor information and more!) Internet Academy students can also register for courses using Student Online services.

  • Current Students

    Please log into MyHerkimer (my.herkimer.edu) and then select the Student Online Services link, which is the very first link on the left hand column of MyHerkimer.  This can also be found under Quicklinks. 

    Alumni

    Click this link to visit the log in page (see below for your User ID and PIN).

  • Your User ID#  is a Capitol H followed by eight (8) numbers.  This number can be found on the back of your Herkimer ID card, on your bill or Student Schedule.

    For Example  H12345678

  • Initially, your PIN is Herk! Followed by your eight (8) digit date of birth.

    For example:  August 17, 1986 would be 08171986

    Password would be Herk!08171986 

    When you log in to the new student records system for the first time, you will be required to change this pin. 

    Your new pin has to be:

    • Minimum of 13 characters long
    • Must include at least one letter, one number, and one special character.
    • Must include at least one upper case (capital) and one lower case letter.
    • Must not include the account name.
    • Must not be the last 5 historical passwords.

    You will also be asked to set a “PIN Security Question” at that time. This is a question that you will need to answer in the event that you forget your PIN.

  • Your PIN Security question should be something that you will remember (and the answer will not change). A good example of PIN security question is “What is my Mother’s Maiden Name?”.  Please be aware that the answer is case sensitive.

  • You already have a Herkimer email account!   

     All students have e-mail accounts automatically set up for them once they have been accepted.                     It is your responsibility to check & use it often.

     

    Q: I have an e-mail address I already use. Can’t I just use that one?

    A: Students are free to keep e-mail accounts in addition to their official Herkimer College-assigned ones; however, the Herkimer College     specific e-mail account will be the only address Herkimer College will use to contact students regarding official College announcements, including campus emergencies. Additionally, some faculty and administrative offices will only accept student e-mails from the College provided e-mail accounts.

    Q: How do I access my Herkimer College e-mail account?

    A: The easiest way to access your Herkimer College email is to download Microsoft Outlook app from your phone/tablet app store and sign-in using your Herkimer email address and password. You can also access your Herkimer College email using the following methods:

    Login to https://my.herkimer.edu with your Herkimer email address and password, click on the second circle that says Outlook or the second link under Quicklinks. 

    From campus computers: log in with your username and password. When you see the Windows desktop, double-click on the Outlook icon or login to my.herkimer.edu.

    Q: What is my username and how do I log on?

    A: Your username is the first seven characters of your last name, first name initial and the last three digits of your H#. There are no spaces in the username. For example, John Smithers, with an H# of H0000123 would have a username of smitherj123. Your initial   password is Herk! Followed by your date of birth in this format: MMDDYYYY without dashes or spaces. So, Herk!MMDDYYYY.

     

    Your e-mail address is always your username followed by @herkimer.edu. The e-mail address in this example would be  smitherj123@herkimer.edu. Additionally, student e-mail addresses are contained on any bills sent by the College. Should you have any questions or suggestions, we’re here to help!     Q: Can I connect my Herkimer email account to my phone?

    A: YES!  We strongly encourage  that you do! Click on the link to get the instructions. This will keep your Herkimer email and important information right at your fingertips!

  • The name of the network is Herkimer College Housing.

    You will be presented with the following webpage to verify they have an account with us before you can access the internet:

    Upon connecting to the network, Herkimer College Housing, you will be asked to sign in with your username and password. Please use the same account you use for the MyHerkimer/labs/etc.

    Student usernames are the first seven characters of your last name (or entire last name if less than seven characters) followed by the first character of your first and the last three numbers of your college ID.     

    Example:    

    Student          John Smithson    

    College ID   H99123101    

    Username   smithsoj101  

    When your password changes you will not need to re-authenticate at that time however 1 month after authentication you will be forced to re-authenticate.   

    Certain devices will not have a web browser and will not be able to join the network.  If you are having issues registering your device or any other wireless issues, please contact Annese at 844-886-8801. Select option 1 for issues with your laptop/smartphone/tablet, and option 2 for a gaming device. You can also send an email to NaaS@annese.com including the information noted below:  

    First and last name, call back number, MAC address(es) of the device(s) with the issue, the username being used to authenticate, any error messages provided and your location (i.e. building and room number).

  • Please use the steps below to find the MAC address of popular gaming consoles. A MAC address is a unique alphanumeric identifier (can contain numbers 0-9 or the letters A through F). MAC addresses are often broken up into pairs using colons or dashes (e.g.12:34:56:4a:5b:6c).  Note: It is critical to write down the MAC address correctly because every character is important.      

    Microsoft Xbox One

    1. Power on your Xbox One 
    2. Navigate to the settings tile and launch Settings 
    3. Select Network 
    4. Select Advanced Settings 
    5. The MAC address for both the Wired and Wireless interfaces should be listed

     

    Sony Playstation 4 

    1. Power on your PS4 
    2. Navigate to the Settings icon located on the menu bar 
    3. Scroll down and select System under the Settings menu 
    4. Select System Information
    5. The MAC address for both the Wired and Wireless interfaces should be listed 

     

    Nintendo Wii U 

    1. Power on your Wii U 
    2. From the Wii U menu, select System Settings  
    3. Scroll to and select Internet 
    4. Scroll down and select View MAC Address 
    5. The MAC address for both the Wired and Wireless interfaces should be listed 

     

    Microsoft Xbox 360   

    1. Power on your Xbox 360.   
    2. In the “System” area of the Xbox  360 dashboard select “Network Settings”.   
    3. Select “Edit Settings”.   
    4. From “Advanced Settings” select “Advanced Settings”.   
    5. On this screen you should see “Wired MAC Address” followed by the MAC address of the system.  

     

    Sony Playstation 3 

    1. Navigate to Settings in the XMB 
    2. Select System Settings.  
    3. Select System Information.  
    4. View information on the PS3 system.  
    5. The MAC address is shown there.   

     

    Nintendo Wii  

    1. From the Wii Channel screen select the “Wii” button then go into “Wii Settings”.   
    2. On the second page find the option “Internet” then go under “Console Information”.   
    3. This screen should have a line with   “USB Ethernet Adapter MAC Address” or “LAN Adapter MAC Address” or similar.   

     

    Nintendo 3DS   

    1. Power on your 3DS 
    2. From the Home menu, highlight and select the System Settings icon 
    3. Select Internet Settings  
    4. Select Other Information 
    5. Select Confirm MAC Address 
    6. The MAC address for the Wireless interface should display on the screen 

     

    Playstation Vita 

    1. Power on your PS Vita 
    2. From the Home screen go to Settings 
    3. Once in Settings, select System  
    4. From the System menu, select System Information 
    5. The MAC address for the Wireless interface should display on the screen

  • Setting up your MFA for the first time.

    • It is highly recommended that you use two devices (computer and phone are preferred).
    • Open the browser of your choice and enter https://my.herkimer.edu

    You will see a screen that says More information required , click next

    At this point please download the Microsoft Authenticator app.  (Android - play store or iPhone App Store)

    After you install the Microsoft Authentication App it,

    you will click on Next/Continue.  You should now see a QR code on your computer. 

    On your phone, Open up the Microsoft Authentication App

    Add an account and choose “work or school account”

     

    and hold it over the QR Code.   On your phone you will Add work/school account and Scan QR Code.

    Next take your phone, while in the authenticator app scan the QR code and wait for it while it activates your account

     

    Once you see this return to your computer and click next

        

    Enter the number from your phone

      

     From that point you’ll just need to follow the instructions on the computer to complete the set up.     

    Next time you log in you will be prompted to log in with your device.

  • iOS

    1. Download Outlook for iOS from the iOS app store.
    2. Enter your Herkimer College email address and tap Add Account.
    3. Enter your password and tap Sign in.
      Accept any prompts for permissions you may receive. Swipe through the features and you are ready to use Outlook for iOS.

    Android

    1. Download Outlook for Android from the Google Play store.
    2. Enter your Herkimer College email address and tap Continue.
    3. Enter your password and tap Sign in.
      Accept any prompts for permissions you may receive.
  • iOS

    1. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. The Accounts screen will open.
    2. On the Accounts screen, tap the Exchange Account you want to remove. 
    3. Scroll down and click Delete Account. A Delete Account warning window will open.
    4. On the Delete Account warning window, click Delete Account to finish. You have successfully deleted your Exchange account.


    Android

    Note: Each Android version might be slightly different, and it is likely that your HCCC account will show up as a Corporate Account.

    1. Go to Applications > Email. The Email screen will open.
    2. On the Email screen, bring up the settings menu and tap Accounts. The Accounts screen will open.
    3. Press and hold the Exchange Account you want to delete until the Menu window opens.
    4. On the Menu window, click Remove Account. A Remove Account warning window will open.
    5. On the Remove Account warning window, tap OK or Remove Account to finish. You have successfully deleted your Exchange account.


    Outlook for Mac

    1. Open Outlook for Mac.
    2. On the Tools menu, click Accounts. The Accounts window will open.
    3. In the Accounts window, click the Exchange Account you want to delete, then click the minus sign (-) below. A Delete warning window will open.
    4. In the Delete warning window, click Delete to finish. You have successfully deleted your Exchange account.


    Apple Mail

    1. Open Apple Mail.
    2. Click Mail on the top menu bar and then Preferences. The Preferences window will open.
    3. In the Preferences window, click Accounts. The Accounts window will open.
    4. In the Accounts window, click the Exchange Account you want to delete, then click the minus sign (-). A Remove warning window will open.
    5. In the Remove warning window, click Remove or OK to finish. You have successfully deleted your Exchange account.


    Outlook mobile tips:

    • Sync your Outlook contacts with your phone: From your Outlook mobile screen, tap inbox, tap the gear icon, from the Mail Account section, tap your account and enable "Save Contacts".
    • Change your swipe options: From your Outlook mobile screen, tap inbox, tap the gear icon, from the Mail section, tap "Swipe Options", and adjust left and right swipes per your preference.
    • Disable focus view from Outlook mobile: From your Outlook mobile screen, tap inbox, tap the gear icon, from the Mail section, turn off "Focused Inbox".

     

     

  • Computer resources are provided to members of the Herkimer College community for use in their prescribed tasks as well as for personal and professional development. In order to have access to computer resources, the Herkimer College Computer Use Policy Acknowledgment/Agreement Form must be signed and returned to the Information Technology Department.

    User accounts are provided on the academic and administrative computing systems (hereinafter called Information Technology) as appropriate. Use of these resources is a privilege, not a right, and access is granted with restrictions and responsibilities for their use.

    Computer abuse is expensive and can have far-reaching negative consequences from disrupting the educational process to infringing on copyright. Certain misuse of Herkimer College computer resources can result in revocation of computing privileges, suspension, dismissal and/or criminal prosecution.

    It is a mission of the College to promote diversity in values and perspectives, and thus the College is respectful of the freedom of expression. However, the College reserves the right to restrict the use of e-mail in appropriate circumstances in which there may be violations of College policies or State or Federal laws.
