Title IX at Herkimer College
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits sex discrimination in education. It reads: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.” These protections are not only for students; faculty and staff are also covered by the protections of Title IX.
Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is a federal law first passed in 1994, most recently reauthorized in 2013. It outlines procedures for handling and investigating reports and has educational requirements for campuses.
Herkimer College does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, gender, age, creed, religion, national origin, marital status, disability, or any other characteristic protected by federal or state law in admissions, employment, or in any aspect regarding the conduct of College business.
