Herkimer’s Teaching Assistant Certificate program prepares you to work as a teaching assistant while obtaining a core of college-level courses that may be applied to a transfer degree. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared to accept positions as a teaching assistant.

This program fulfills the college credit hour requirement for a New York State Level III Teaching Assistant Certificate.

As a teaching assistant, you'll:

  • Assist the teacher with large group instruction
  • Work with students in small groups
  • Provide one-on-one guidance to students
  • Score tests, quizzes, and homework assignments
  • Provide clerical assistance to the teacher

Graduates find employment in elementary or secondary schools. Others may opt to continue their studies by pursuing a degree in Liberal Arts: Childhood Education, Liberal Arts: General Studies, Liberal Arts: Humanities or Liberal Arts: Social Science. Upon completion of the A.A. degree, students may transfer to SUNY Cortland, SUNY Oswego, and a variety of other four-year institutions which feature educational programs.

Job Opportunities
