Ecotourism and Adventure Travel AAS
An emphasis on natural science, the environment, sociology, and ecology.
Herkimer's AAS in Ecotourism and Adventure Travel prepares students for jobs in the travel and tourism industry. With an emphasis on natural science, the environment, sociology, and ecology, Ecotourism and Adventure Travel relates principles of travel and tourism to the science and sociology of indigenous populations and natural habitats. Ecotourism and Adventure Travel students study the business and economics of travel and tourism and learn the interrelationships between diverse cultures and ecosystems.
Ecotourism and Adventure Travel can be completed entirely online.
The Goals of this Program are to:
- Prepare students for entry-level jobs in ecotourism and adventure travel.
- Introduce students to current industry practices and emerging market trends.
- Provide employers with a reliable source of skilled labor.
Successful Graduates of this Program will be able to:
- Perform basic job functions proficiently.
- Use technology, work efficiently, think critically, and act professionally.
- Communicate effectively.
Ecotourism and Adventure Travel is designed for students interested in jobs that involve planning, organizing, managing, and marketing adventure travel activities in the ecotourism industry. Graduates of the Ecotourism and Adventure Travel program have the knowledge, skill, and ability needed for careers in the hospitality, travel, transportation, hotel, airline, cruise, and resort industries.
Although not specifically designed for transfer, Ecotourism and Adventure Travel graduates may also continue their education at a variety of four-year colleges and universities. Students interested in transferring should work closely with their faculty advisor and Herkimer’s Advisement Center in order to prepare for transfer.
